Burial Authorization Service

Articles 44, 45 and 48 of Law No. 3 of August 1, 1957 on the organization of civil status, as amended and supplemented.
Article 76 of Organic Law on Municipalities No. 33 of May 14, 1975, as amended and supplemented.
Law No. 12 of February 25, 1997 on cemeteries and burial sites.
Decree No. 1326 of July 7, 1997 concerning the preparation of graves and rules for burial and exhumation.

After the death and before the burial.

Medical certificate confirming death by natural causes.
Authorization from the Public Prosecutor in case of suspicious or unexplained death.
Report from security services for unnatural death cases.
Payment of fees related to the requested document.

Civil status office at the municipality or municipal district.
Delegation outside the municipal area.

Remarks

If the death is suspicious, results from violence, an accident or unusual circumstances, the burial authorization is issued only after a report from national security services.

In the case of a body transfer, the civil status officer receiving the deceased at the destination issues the burial authorization based on the accompanying documents (medical certificate and death extract), without further investigation.

Anyone who proceeds with a burial without authorization is subject to imprisonment and a fine.
