Family Record Book Issuance Service

Law No. 28 of June 30, 1967, establishing the family record book, as amended and supplemented by subsequent texts.
Prime Minister Circular No. 15 of February 14, 1989, regarding the simplification of procedures for civil status documents.

The applicant must be Tunisian and married.
The request for the family record book may be submitted by: the head of the family, the divorced woman if not remarried, or the widow who retains the book unless otherwise ordered by a court.
The marriage contract must be established within the territorial jurisdiction of the municipality, either by the municipality or a notary.

The family record book is delivered immediately upon establishment of the marriage certificate or within a week in other cases.
Remarks

Remark 1:
When the family record book request is submitted at the same time as the marriage certificate before the civil registrar, the same documents used for the marriage contract are used to prepare the first family record book.

Remark 2:
Any changes to the family record book can only be made by an authorized civil registrar. No other person is allowed to make such modifications.

Remarks on the Family Record Book

Remark 1:
In the event of the death of the head of the family holding the record book, or a court decision removing their civil rights, the right to retain the book goes to the wife, unless otherwise ruled by the court.

Remark 2:
Civil status documents extracted from the family record book are legally equivalent in evidentiary value to those extracted from the original register.

Remark 3:
Anyone who knowingly uses documents from a family record book containing incomplete or false information is subject to one year of imprisonment and a fine of 240 dinars.

Remark 4:
For individuals married before the promulgation of the 1957 Civil Status Law, the family record book is issued by the municipality of the husband's place of birth.
