The death must be declared to the civil status officer of the place of death or the place where the body was found if the location of death is unknown.
The declaration must be made within 3 days following the death.
Those allowed to make the declaration include:
- A relative or anyone with as accurate and complete information as possible
- The hospital or health center director within 24 hours of death
- The prison director if the death occurred in custody or by execution
- Security or gendarmerie officers in case of death caused by an accident or violence

Remarks
Remark 1:
After the legal deadline (3 days), the death can only be registered with the authorization of the Court of First Instance of the place of death.
Remark 2:
Only rely on the hospital's report to avoid duplicate death declarations.
